Hakuba currently is sitting under cloudy skies and with light snow expected throughout the day. Overnight we received about 1-2cm of snow but nothing substantial to soften up the conditions.
Ski hill conditions today will be somewhat hard and icy as the rain permeated snow has frozen up as the temperatures dropped overight. As rain was reported right to the top of the hills, one would expected to find some rain crust on pretty much all aspects. With the rain as well the snowpack has settled and melted quite a bit. Skiers and snowboarders would be best to have nice sharp edges out there today, and maybe enjoy some smooth groomers and park where firmed up snow is ok for riding. Travel Advisory: Stay out of the backcounrty, stay to the groomed piste or make it a clean up the house and have an onsen day. But if you must go into the backcountry stay to very low angle slopes, stick to the ridges and be aware of hazards above you. Stay well back from cornices as they are heavy and will step back at least twace as big. Avalanche Hazard: Alpine: High Official resort snow depths on 11th Feb 10: Happo-one: |
