Hibiki’s Internship Blog – Day 18

Canyoning Training Day Four

Hi, my name is Hibiki and I’m doing an internship at Evergreen Outdoor Center in Hakuba.

On June 29th, it was the fourth day of the training, and we went to the canyon to check the Full Day course and to practice how to set up the rope systems we use.

We set up a guided line (like a zip line) from the top to the bottom of the 14m waterfall. Then, we clipped on the guided line and used one more rope to control the speed to go down.

We also practiced rappelling down from the 8m waterfall. The surface of the waterfall was really slippery, so it was much harder than when we practiced it at the climbing wall.

When we go canyoning, we need to use our brain a lot because we need to think about which route is the safest, which system is the most appropriate for the guests or the waterfall, and how deep the water is in the pools. Also, I think I need to get a lot of experience in canyoning so that I can select which system to use and which route to take. This season, I will try to get as much as experience in canyoning as I can to be a good guide!

EOC offers Half-day Canyoning Tour and Full Day Canyoning Tour, so if you are interested in one of them, please check the link below!
