Hibiki’s Internship Blog – Day 16

Canyoning Training Day Two

Hi, my name is Hibiki and I’m doing an internship at Evergreen Outdoor Center in Hakuba. On June 27th, we had the second day of the canyoning training and practiced rappelling.

On Evergreen Canyoning tours, guests sometimes need to rappel from the waterfall when the level of the water is high.

Canyoning assistant guides need to rappel down the waterfall to make a system before clients rappel the waterfall. Systems are made of combination of carabiners, ropes, and other gear to ensure clients to rappel safely.

It feels kind of dangerous when you put your whole body weight on a rope when you rappel down, but the ropes that we use are really strong and are used for rock climbing. This type of rope can hold several tons.

During the canyoning tour, you will feel super refreshed in the cool river water and feel the flow of the canyon while you swim, jump and slide your way down.  You may also be able to even rappel down the waterfall, I’m sure you’ll  have an exciting fun time!
