Hakuba Snow Report December 27

Another bluebird day today. From the echoland base the sound of a military fleet preparing for takeoff could be heard from last night through to the early hours and those in the know knew the Happo snow-makers were out in full force…a depressing sound at this time of year.

Groomed runs and spring-like conditions today. Bottom runs are showing rocks and some dirt poking through and looking up from the bottom even the higher slopes are looking sparse under lifts and so on.

Snow is forecast from Friday through to next week, so lets hope it dumps!

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

Spring-like conditions today and relatively warm temperatures after a chilly morning we’ve seen a rise from -4 at 8:30 to +1 up top now. Nice day for hiking but as always go with an equipped experienced educated team and assess snow stability before dropping in, especially those lee slopes, and watch solar aspects as the day progresses. Still those huge unstable cornices to be careful of.
