Weather conditions: | Light snow, cloud |
New snowfall: | 1.5cm in village |
Snow depth: | 0-1cm (village); 20-25cm (Hakuba 47) |
The snowfall eased off as the day progressed yesterday and in the end didn’t amount to a whole lot on the ground.
We awoke to about 1.5 cms of new snow today in Hakuba. It feels like winter has finally made its appearance with a nice carpet of white on the ground here in the village. Having said that, it probably won’t last long here in the village – likely hardly any of that left by the end of today. It sounds like there was just about 10cm or so of fresh snow higher up on the mountains. As soon as the ground stays frozen, the snow should be able to remain and a nice base will begin to develop.
A bit more snow is forecast for today at higher altitudes along with some continued cold, minus temperatures. But it looks like it won’t last too long though, with the snow clouds expected to clear up tomorrow and not a whole lot of snow on the 6-day forecast as it stands at the moment. Looks like we are going to have to be patient just a while longer.
No word from the resorts yet re: possible openings, but we will let you know as soon as we hear any word from them.
