Hakuba Snow Report – 25th Dec 2011

Weather conditions: Overcast, snowing lightly
New snowfall: 20 cm (village)
Snow depth: 60 cm (Village ); 140 cm (Top of Goryu)
Merry Christmas! We got about 20cm’s of fresh snow overnight in the valley and people are stoked to get out there this morning. Santa started to deliver his snowfall presents at about midday yesterday and it continued to fall all day and night and is still lightly falling as I type this. The powder is deep light and dry today so get out there and enjoy it.

Goryu and 47 are both reporting 30cm of new snow on the upper slopes this morning. Hakuba Cortina resort over in Otari – a consistent performer in terms of how much snow they get – is reporting a whopping 60cm of new snow on the upper slopes.

We would expect lots of deep fresh powder up on top today and then turning to chopped and packed powder in the afternoon. Of course the groomers were out in full force last night so we would have some good solid smooth runs too with some powder on top. We should be able to ski right to the bottom at all resorts very soon and in a few days all the lifts from the bottom should be operational – keep an eye on the updates below for the latest.

The forecast is calling for more snow today and into tomorrow, so conditions on the hill should just get better. Thank you so much snow gods, Santa or whomever you put your powder faith into, please keep it up.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
