Hakuba Snow Report – 23rd Dec 2011

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy
New snowfall: 5 cm (village)
Snow depth: 45 cm (Village ); 115 cm (Top of Goryu)
It looks like it should be a great day today on the resorts in Hakuba. Over the past 24 hours we have received about 15cm of new snow on the upper slopes, as it was snowing consistently all day long yesterday. Presently the weather is partially cloudy with patches of blue coming through and the sun trying to make an appearance.Skiers and boarders can expect to be treated to powder conditions on almost every run on the upper mountains, though it is still relatively thin on the ground on lower slopes of course and not all resorts open down to base yet. The groomers have been out packing down all the snow to get a nice solid base and create some nice smooth beginner terrain. You should also be able to find nice pockets of powder on the edges of the runs.

Some gusty winds on the mountain may affect lifts this morning.

The forecast is still calling for heavy snow coming in over the weekend and we are super stoked to have finally something like real winter conditions on the hill and a white blanket of snow all through the village. Saturday night is Christmas Eve so if Santa delivers a fresh load of powder there will be a town full of happy happy snow kids!

Today is a national holiday and the first day of a three day weekend so we can expect places to start getting busier.
