Hakuba Snow Report – 22nd Dec 2011

Weather conditions: Snowing
New snowfall: 10 cm (village)
Snow depth: 38 cm (village); 105 cm (Top of Goryu)
Happy day! We have got about 10cm’s of new snow here at the village base this morning and it is still snowing as I am writing this, so we can be ready for some powder on all the resorts today. It is not too cold either down at 800m here in Hakuba so the snow is quite heavy but we are not going to complain. Things are still limited out on the resorts, but we should be completely open with all the lifts going full steam ahead really soon here with the forecast that we have just ahead of us. Keep an eye on the info below as it is updated for each resort around town.Conditions on the hills today should be powder and chopped powder, groomed (with powder on top). So generally really good conditions on all of the upper slopes especially. Be careful when you ski or board right to the bottom as there are still rocks and grass, and man-made structures are still poking through as the base is not deep just as yet.

Today should see some more snow, but the heavy snow is now forecast to be with us on Saturday and Sunday. If the forecast comes true we will be in for some suddenly deep conditions on the resorts. So it should be absolutely a perfect white(out) Christmas for us all here in Hakuba.

Merry times and smiling snow covered faces coming down off the resorts is the way things are looking. Let’s hope so!
