Hakuba Snow Report – 21st Dec 2011

Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: trace (village)
Snow depth: 28 cm (village); 100 cm (Top of Goryu)
It is snowing lightly this morning in Hakuba but not too much to report in the way of snowfall. Just trace amounts fell overnight. However, it remained cold and the snow we have is not melting. Today looks like it is going to remain overcast all day with more snow flurries possibly rolling in this afternoon.Conditions on the resorts are actually quite good considering our base isn’t as high as it is usually is. Skiers and boarders can expect to find powder and packed powder on ungroomed runs and some nice smooth groomed runs where beginners can practice. The bottom open areas are still a bit sketchy for snowpack covering so watch out for unmarked hazards like rocks, grass and maybe man-made structures as well. The forecast is looking very promising for this weekend and into the X-mas weekend. Snow is expected from basically later today through into early next week and they are calling for substantial snow over the weekend. Please jolly old Saint Nick, deliver dumps of snow to us! We have all been good boys and girls this year! Happy sliding folks!
