Hakuba Snow Report – 11th Dec 2011

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy, blue skies
New snowfall: 4-5cm
Snow depth: 4-5cm (village); 45cm (Top of Goryu)

We awoke this morning to another nice new snowfall of about 4-5 cms here in the village and Goryu reported 20cms of new up on top! It looks like the winter is beginning and we can (re)start the season. Patches of blue sky and sun are appearing with the upper mountains covered in white cloud and making it look very beautiful at the moment.

As the morning progresses the snow around village is getting thinner once again, but if we continue to get little dumps like this one it should be not long at all before we will be able to ride the entire mountain.

Right now though only Alps Dai Ichi Pair lift is open on Goryu (get there via the Gondola), with just the one slope open for skiing and boarding.

Hakuba 47 resort is trying to open up Route 8 as well, though that is on hold due to winds… may change as the day moves on.

If you do venture out make sure you don’t take your new boards out there as there is not much of a base. Natural buried hazards are bound to be poking through at this early season time.

The forecast looks like it may warm up a bit on Monday, then more cooler temps and snow flurries expected next week.

Lets hope it comes soon!
