Preference is given to those with a love for and experience guiding/instructing in the outdoors but we do understand everyone starts somewhere and short-term positions can be given to those wishing to gain training in the outdoor industry.

In the Winter: For those with no Japanese ability seeking English jobs in Japan, nearly all of our clients are English speakers and we have a variety of English speaking jobs in our Hakuba Ski School from late November/ early December through to the end of February/March. We offer ski instructor jobs, snowboard instructor jobs, backcountry guide jobs, office/reservations team, daycare, drivers and cafe staff – cooks, baristas and waiting staff. All positions require appropriate licensing/certification where relevant and experience is preferred.

In the Summer: The majority of our clients are Japanese and Japanese-speaking ability is necessary for you to work in daily operations and be able to lead clients in the outdoors. Cafe staff and shuttle van driver staff will require some Japanese speaking ability, however fluency is not a pre-requisite. For office and reservations staff, Japanese speaking and emailing skills are essential and being bilingual (English & Japanese) is an asset. All positions require appropriate licensing/certification where relevant and experience is preferred.

Evergreen Outdoor Center is now hiring experienced outdoor guides for this Hakuba Green Season!

Hakuba is an amazing place in Green Season and at Evergreen we have the pleasure of guiding our guests to many beautiful places around Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture and beyond with a range of exciting activities including Canoeing, Kayaking, SUP, Rafting, Canyoning, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Tree Climbing, Hiking, Team Building and Kid’s Camps. If you are an outdoor guide with experience in guiding one or more of these disciplines, and can speak Japanese (either native or fluently), we strongly encourage you to apply.

Application Requirements

  • Strong to Native Level Japanese language ability
  • Japanese Working Visa or Citizenship
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification (an opportunity to refresh this cert. is available)
  • CPR
  • Industry Relevant Certifications

Lake Tour Guides (lead or assistant) positions will involve the following:

  • High level of guest care and guest safety
  • High level of communication skills and conversation ability with all guests
  • High level of paddling skills and river/lake rescue (Canoe, Kayak and SUP)
  • Knowledge of weather and weather forecasts
  • Knowledge and ability in Wilderness First Aid and CPR
  • Tour preparations and tour re-setting
  • Preparation of lake site and canoe/kayak/SUP equipment
  • Preparation care and maintenance of canoe/kayak/SUP gear and equipment,
  • Preparation and maintenance of base location and Evergreen site
  • Photo taking and digital media use
  • Driving shuttle vans (pick ups and drop offs)
  • Doing guest sign-in, payments and waivers

Mountain Bike Guides (lead or assistant) positions will involve the following:

  • High level of guest care and guest safety
  • High level of communication skills and conversation ability with all guests
  • High level of mountain bike riding skills and mountain bike instructing ability

  • Knowledge and ability in Wilderness First Aid and CPR

Canyoning Guides (lead or assistant) positions will involve the following:

  • Knowledege of canyoning techniques and river rescue
  • Knowledge of weather and weather forecasts
  • Knowledge and ability in Wilderness First Aid and CPR
  • Tour preparations and tour re-setting

Hiking Guides (lead or assistant) positions will involve the following:

  • High level of mountain hiking skills and trekking experience
  • Knowledge of maps, compass use and mountain route finding
  • Knowledge of weather and weather forecasts
  • Knowledge and ability in Wilderness First Aid , CPR and mountain rescue

  • Preparation of hiking equipment

Raft Tour Guides (lead or assistant) positions will involve the following:

  • High level of paddling skills and river/lake rescue (Whitewater Raft, Canoe, Kayak and SUP)
  • Knowledge of weather and weather forecasts
  • Knowledge and ability in Wilderness First Aid and CPR

  • Preparation of lake site and canoe/kayak/SUP equipment
  • Preparation care and maintenance of canoe/kayak/SUP gear and equipment,
