Hakuba Snow Report – 2nd Mar 2011

Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow at altitude
New snowfall: 10cm (upper); 5cm (lower) [Goryu official]
Snow depth: Hakuba Goryu Top : 280cm [official]
Temperatures have come down again after our brief frolic with Spring; snow began yesterday in the afternoon, and though there was no real accumulation in the valley Goryu are reporting 10 cm of fresh up top and 5 below. Its currently -1.5 degrees at 760m and -5.8 at 1400m so temps are holding in the minuses. The forecast for today is for snow showers though there is nothing coming down right now in the valley, it looks like something’s happening up top in the form of snow – no visibility of the mountain from below, and the visibility on the mountain courtesy of the webcams doesn’t look the best. Winds are light from the N / NE, and it doesn’t look like things will clear up today.

The forecast for the next few days is for snow showers so lets hope the precipitation keeps it up while we have this cold weather. Of all the nights tonight is forecast the most fall so we might get to do a nice update tomorrow!
