20th Jan 2011

Weather conditions: Light snow
New snowfall: 20cm (Goryu top); 10cm (Goryu bottom)
Snow depth: Hakuba Goryu Top : 330cm [official]
There has been some accumulation overnight, around 5cm observed in the village since 9:00PM last night and Goryu is reporting 20cm up top and 10cm on lower slopes since yesterday. Snow is still falling lightly and visibility on higher slopes isn’t the best today with no views above 1500m from the village.

Life has been too easy for the weather forecasters lately, they just put the snowman button on repeat and go back to sleep it seems, a bit of work for them today as tomorrow looks like the sun might show its face for part of the day at least – maybe more.

Higher altitudes are still getting blasted by strong Westerlies which might carry over the ridges and affect some lifts today much like the last couple of days; that said winds on the resorts are registering at <5 m/s at present so we may escape the wrath today.

A bit cooler than yesterday in the village registering -1.5 but much the same up top at -5 (1400masl).

No big snow forecast at present – the weekend looks to be overcast possibly some snow Sunday night but resort conditions are great and there are powder fields galore for those with the training, knowledge, experience and equipment. Take care out there.
