This weekend has been one of the busier of the season again and Happo’s annual fire festival at Nakiyama last night had a good turnout and was a lot of fun.Today, we have another bluebird day here in Hakuba – great views of the alps and a good day to have the camera out. Not perfect mid-winter snow conditions as you might expect, but not that bad either. It would be hard not to have fun out there I reckon.
It was still pretty cold overnight in the village though not in to the double figures, it dropped to about -8 early this morning and has warmed up to 6 degrees now (11:00). It is still below freezing up top, around -1 degrees at 1400m with very light winds from the SSW. Winds are a little stronger higher up, at 2080 (Happo-ike) currently around 8m/s from the W. There is no fresh snow on the radar for the week ahead. In fact, it looks like it will be clear weather, occasional cloud and lots of blue skies with freezing temperature coming up to around 2000m and possible rain towards the end of the week. Oh dear. Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen (the last bit about rain) and the temperatures drop and we get more snow before next weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the clear conditions out there at the moment. |
