Climbing in Hakuba

Wall Climbing in Japan
In Japan climbing has been experiencing a revival of interest and wall climbing is the perfect way to develop your knowledge, ropework, and climbing skills. Evergreen has a climb waiting for every physical ability. Hakuba Village has an outdoor climbing wall with an overhang that makes climbing possible on rainy days. Twenty minutes from Hakuba, in Omachi, there is a climbing wall with a nice variety of routes and a bouldering wall. We offer half day (AM or PM) and full day wall climbing options.

Rock Climbing in Japan
In Hakuba (or a close distance away in Nagano ken) there are numerous climbing options. Ogawa-yama, on the Yamanashi-Nagano border, has hundreds of multi-pitch granite climbs, with routes ranging from 5 to 12.5. Also scattered through Nagano many bolted sport climbing sections are a twenty-minute walk from the parking lot. In our full day rock climbing program we practice basic climbing techniques on a sports wall in the morning and then graduate to a local outdoor crag (weather permitting). Safety is our number one priority so we advance to your comfort level and set up climbing routes that will test you, but are heaps of fun to climb. As we will be outside all day, please pack a lunch and have the appropriate clothing for the day.

Multi-Day Climbing in Hakuba

Hakuba is truly a mountaineer’s paradise. Steep peaks rise up to over 2500m and with linked ridges climbers can access many of the local summits with relative ease. Some of the more popular climbing routes are the famous Three Peaks of Hakuba (Hakubasan-zan) and The Tateyama Alpine Route that spans across Nagano prefecture and Toyama prefecture. Next to Hakuba, the famous Kashima-Yari East Ridge is a multi-day climb into alpine country. With this type of tour we use mountain huts and occasionally tents. Prerequistes for this tour are experience in mountain climbing and your own gear, however equipment rentals are available from Evergreen. Please contact us for more details.
