A drive North from Hakuba finds you in Otari; the first resort here is Tsugaike Kogen which gets some of the best snow in the Hakuba valley, and because of its location higher in the Japan Alps it has stunning views all accessible via a long, two-stationed gondola ride. There is great backcountry access for those with equipment and we do many of our backcountry tours and a lot of our avalanche training at Tsugaike.
