Cortina and connected resort Norikura, are on the northern end of the Hakuba valley in the city of Otari. Cortina is famous for always getting more and better powder than the rest of Hakuba. At the base of Cortina resort is a huge and beautiful lodge that resembles the one from 'The Shining'. A cozy lodge with great service and a nice eating area. Cortina offers a true sense of Japanese culture albeit in an unlikely environment - often taiko drum sessions are held at the bottom of the lifts, sake is served and many of the staff are dressed in old-time wear.
