Hakuba is under snow clouds this morning and light snow fall over night which gave everything a fresh dusting. The low temperatures last night will have continued to keep the snow nice and dry, however, on the runs the compacted wet snow from yesterday will have frozen. Watch out on the slopes, as parts could be deceivingly soft fresh snow, but may have underlying ice patches.
At the top of the mountain there was 10cm of fresh snow overnight and it is set to keep snowing lightly throughout the day and then more snow is due on Tuesday, with the forecast predicting the heaviest snowfall for the week on Wednesday.
Expect nice corduroy on the groomers, packed powder and chopped powder on the edges of the runs and still some nice lines to be found through the trees. This weekend is a holiday long week end in Japan and therefore the slopes will be busy. Visibility is variable and as you head higher up on the slopes visibility could become poor, so watch out on those busy slopes today.
The weather is expected to remain below zero throughout the weekend, on Monday the sun will be out taking temperatures up slightly and then from Tuesday it’s set to get even colder with more snow on the works for late next week. There isn’t a lot of precipitation expected over the weekend, however, there is a lot of accumulated snow that should be plenty to keep everyone happy.
