What is a Water wizard and a mountain master?
Water Wizards and Mountain Masters are youth between the ages of eight and fourteen who have a keen interest in the natural world around, with a desire to discover along their very own adventurous journey. We at Evergreen feel it is essential for us to assist these young Wizards and Masters in their quest of discovery and have prepared programs that provide them the means to accomplish this in a safe and fun learning atmosphere.
is a 5 day camp to discover and live out the cycle of water. Campers will learn about the natural cycle of water though taking part in thought provoking and physically challenging activities on crystal clear lakes and rivers with in Hakuba Valley and a day long field trip along the length of the Himekawa River to it’s confluence with the Sea of Japan.
Activities like raft building on lake Aokiko, and river rafting and canyoning in crystal clear streams encourage team work, leadership and communication as well as being challenging and great fun too.
On a more academic side we will create a mini hydro electric generator and visit an actual Hydro electric dam as well as write a journal of our experiences and ideas on how we can responsibly harness waters great power.
Food on the camp will be a combination of camp cooking over an open camp fire by the campers themselves, assisted of course by our camp chef and councilors as well as dinners prepared by our chef at Roots cafe and a last night pizza party where campers will make their own pizza and cook it in our wood fired brick oven.
Campers will spend their first night in lake side bungalows were we will have a camp fire, explore the night sky and search for wild fire flies that will be just starting to come out around the lake and rivers of the area. From the second night we will move to Evergreen’s Kokusai Lodge for the remainder of our nights in Hakuba.
Transportation to the camp will be on JR rail Super Azusa Express from Shinjuku station to Hakuba and we will return via Super Azusa from Hakuba to Shinjuku Station. All the time the children will be chaperoned by a camp councilor on reserved seats. These tickets can be purchased through Evergreen Outdoor Center with the assistance of a local travel agent here in Hakuba. For those that would rather drop off and pick up their child(ren) at and from camp this train cost will not be needed and we will have a drop off and pick up time and place for you to meet the camp leaders.
is for children intrigued by nature and excited by adventure.
This 5 day camp that can be coupled with the WaterWizards program and is a great way for your child to learn about mountain and forest ecosystems while all the while having a great time mountain biking and hiking the local hills, climbing rocks and trees as well playing in crystal clear streams and camping under the stars in tents.
We will stay in indoor lodging for three nights and hike to our mountain camp site for one night of tenting where we will enjoy the observing the stars and telling stories around the camp fire.
The activities that we will do out i the great outdoors of the Japanese Alps will not only challenge the students but provide us a means to discover the ecosystems that we travel through.
